The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office hosted its third GED graduation ceremony of the year on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Seven detainees proudly received their GED certificates during the ceremony, bringing the total number of graduates to more than 30 since the GED Training Center opened in March 2024.

Speakers included Chief Deputy Rhonda Anderson, Col. Michael Williams, and Dr. Kim Kranzlin from Cobb County Adult Education, who congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to continue pursuing their goals. Following the remarks, Cobb County Adult Education staff, in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office, presented the graduates with their certificates.

The GED program covers four subject areas and requires a minimum passing score of 145. Upon enrollment, detainees complete the TABE placement test to determine their educational level. Instructors then tailor lessons to meet individual learning needs and schedule GED testing when participants are fully prepared. After 40 hours of instruction, detainees take a post-test to assess their progress if they have not already passed the GED exam.
