Earth Month 2025 Recap

May 2, 2025

The Cobb County Office of Sustainability / Keep Cobb Beautiful kept Cobb busy during Earth Month 2025!

We kicked off Earth Month early on March 29 with Commissioner Sheffield's District 4 Earth Day Cleanup. This annual event brings together the office of Commissioner Monique Sheffield, the Cobb County Office of Sustainability / Keep Cobb Beautiful, and volunteers from Cobb County and beyond to help clean up and beautify Cobb County. This year's event focused on litter pickup, community garden beautification and planting, and senior citizen yard cleanup and beautification.

At this year's event, we welcomed over 400 volunteers, collected 8,970 pounds of trash, and helped clean up and beautify multiple senior citizen yards and a community garden, making this year's event our largest and most impactful.

Chief Sustainability Officer Kimberly White also helped out with the Bridgestone Tire Cleanup event. Later in the week, the team was represented at the Kennesaw State University Marietta Campus Earth Day Event. The team handed out seeds, discussed the Hefty Renew program, and recruited volunteers for our events and Adopt-a-Mile programs.

On April 26, the Office of Sustainability / Keep Cobb Beautiful held its Spring Medication Disposal Event. At this event, volunteers helped Cobb County residents safely dispose of expired or otherwise unwanted medications. This event was held at three locations across Cobb County -- the C. Freeman Poole Senior Center in Smyrna, Precinct One in Kennesaw, and the Tim D. Lee Senior Center in Marietta. Volunteers welcomed 571 cars and collected 68 bags and 1,703 pounds of medications. Cobb County Police Officers helped to safely dispose of these bags at the end of the day, keeping these medications out of our waterways.

Finally, the Cobb County Office of Sustainability / Keep Cobb Beautiful held its third annual Sustainability Forum & Expo on April 30 at Jim Miller Park. This event brought together various businesses and cities within Cobb County as well as various Cobb County Government departments to share their sustainability initiatives with Cobb County residents. Additionally, the event featured an awards portion in which individuals, groups, and government departments were awarded for their contributions to a more sustainable Cobb County. Launched in 2023 and opened to the public in 2024, this year's Sustainability Forum & Expo was the largest and most successful yet, welcoming 40 vendors and 400 attendees.
