Five individuals recently reached a major milestone by graduating from the Cobb County Drug Treatment Court, celebrating their dedication to recovery and personal growth. Judges, court staff, elected officials, attorneys, family, and friends gathered in the Cobb Superior Court Ceremonial Courtroom to honor the graduates and their accomplishments.

The program provides an 18-to-24-month voluntary alternative to incarceration for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. It combines close judicial supervision, individualized treatment, and recovery support to help participants rebuild their lives and become productive members of the community.

At this October graduation, three graduates completed the program without a single positive drug screen. Two now serve on the DTC Alumni Board, and two have enrolled in college to further their education.

One graduate reflected on their journey: “This program challenged me in ways I never expected. There were ups and downs, but I learned to trust myself again, accept help, and see that change is possible. I am proud of how far I have come and excited about the future ahead.”

Superior Court Judge Jason D. Marbutt, who presides over the Drug Treatment Court, said: “Drug Treatment Court shows that change is possible for those who choose it. Our participants work hard to rebuild their lives and we are here to support them every step of the way.”

Program Coordinator Porsha Winfrey added: “Watching our participants transform is inspiring. This program gives individuals a chance to rewrite their story. Seeing graduates reconnect with family, achieve sobriety, and pursue new goals shows that recovery works and this program delivers results. These five graduates are living proof.”
