Annual Truist Park / Braves Update Highlights Growing Benefits to Cobb
County and Braves also prepare for 2025 MLB All-Star Game
Cobb County (June 24, 2025) – The latest update to Cobb’s Board of Commissioners from the county’s Chief Financial Officer and representatives from the Atlanta Braves reinforced the continued success of the Truist Park development and its growing economic benefit to the county.
The original 2015 public-private partnership agreement committed $6.4 million annually from Cobb taxpayers to support stadium debt service. However, Chief Financial Officer Bill Volckmann reminded the board that the stadium now generates more than that amount for the county’s General Fund.
“A couple of years ago, we reached a milestone where we were no longer using general fund tax dollars to support the stadium’s debt service,” Volckmann said. “I can report that those numbers continue to improve.”
In 2024, the stadium and associated taxes generated a $3 million net gain for Cobb’s General Fund—well beyond the county’s obligation. These figures exclude property tax revenue from the adjacent Battery Atlanta development.
Explosive Growth at The Battery
The taxable value of property in the Battery area has skyrocketed—from $5 million in 2014 to $577 million in 2024, now spanning 56 parcels. This dramatic growth has translated into millions in revenue for several entities:
• Cobb County Board of Education: $4.3 million
• Cumberland CID: $794,000
• Cobb County Government (General Fund, SPLOST, occupation, liquor, and hotel/motel taxes): Over $10.5 million
• State of Georgia: Over $16.7 million
Economic and Community Impact
Braves President of Development Mike Plant called the partnership “the greatest example of a public/private partnership.”
“In just 12 short years, I’m very proud that we’ve been able to deliver all this,” Plant said.
He shared that 74% of visitors to The Battery come from outside Cobb County, highlighting the district’s tourism draw. The Braves recently purchased 34 acres at nearby Pennant Park, setting the stage for more commercial and entertainment development.
All-Star Game Preparation Underway
The county is also preparing to host the 2025 Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Truist Park. Cobb has conducted a series of planning meetings with public safety agencies, emergency services, MLB leadership, and local businesses to ensure a safe and seamless experience.
The planning—based on FEMA’s “P” Process—has included tabletop exercises, an Event Action Plan (EAP), and coordination across law enforcement, EMS, communications, and traffic operations. Operational command centers will be in place across key areas during the event.
